The Carbon Handprint

handprint

A philosophy. A framework. A monthly proof point.

The waste industry has spent decades talking about reduction.

Reduce your landfill tonnage. Reduce your emissions. Reduce your footprint. These are meaningful goals but they are framed entirely around the negative. Around harm. Around what your business owes the planet, not what it can give back.

We think that framing only tells half the story.

Why the Carbon Handprint

people discussing sustainability

From Footprint to Handprint

A carbon footprint measures the damage done. It looks backward, quantifies harm, and asks: how much less bad can we be?

A Carbon Handprint looks forward. It measures the positive environmental value your business has actively created the emissions that never happened because waste was recovered instead of incinerated, the materials returned to productive use instead of buried, the resources reintroduced into the circular economy instead of lost to landfill.

Where the footprint asks "what do we owe?", the Handprint asks "what have we achieved?"

This is not semantics. It is a fundamentally different way of measuring success.

Why It Matters Now

Your waste programme is no longer a background operational function. It is a Scope 3 emissions driver, a regulatory risk exposure, a procurement differentiator, and - in the hands of the right partner, a measurable contribution to your organisation's sustainability commitments.

Boards are asking about it. Procurement teams are scoring on it. Investors are scrutinising it. And with the UK's Digital Waste Tracking mandate arriving in October 2026, the expectation of verified, auditable environmental data is becoming a legal baseline, not a competitive advantage.

In this environment, being able to say "we reduced our waste" is no longer enough. The organisations getting ahead are the ones who can prove, in specific and verifiable terms, the positive impact their operations are creating.

That is exactly what the Carbon Handprint is designed to deliver.

What We Measure

The Carbon Handprint is built on a structured measurement framework covering five core metrics:

Tonnes of CO₂e avoided the carbon emissions prevented through recovery and diversion from landfill or high-impact disposal.

Landfill diversion rate the percentage of total waste managed that was kept out of landfill entirely, routed instead to recovery, recycling, or energy generation.

Circular material recovery rate  the volume of material returned to productive economic use, extending the life of resources rather than extracting new ones.

Energy recovered  the energy value generated through waste-to-energy processes such as CemFuel blending, expressed in MWh equivalent.

Resource reintroduction  the volume of material, including reconditioned IBCs and recovered chemicals, reintroduced into the supply chain rather than disposed of.

Every metric is calculated using transparent, conservative methodology, designed to be defensible under audit, suitable for ESG disclosures, and meaningful at board level.

The Carbon Credit Score

To make this data immediately usable, every Environmental Green Group client receives a Carbon Credit Score  a single, standardised metric that consolidates all five performance indicators into one clear, trackable number.

Updated in real time and accessible through your client dashboard, the Carbon Credit Score allows your business to benchmark performance year-on-year, compare impact across sites or business units, strengthen ESG disclosures, and demonstrate measurable environmental improvement to stakeholders, investors, and procurement teams.

It translates the complexity of your waste data into the language your board actually speaks.

The Carbon Handprint Certificate

Every month, every Environmental Green Group client receives a Verified Carbon Handprint Certificate - a clear, auditable summary of the specific positive environmental impact their business has generated through its waste programme.

Tonnes diverted from landfill. CO₂e avoided. Resources recovered and returned to productive use. Expressed in plain language, ready for your sustainability reports, procurement responses, and ESG disclosures.

Not an estimate. Not a projection. Verified data, produced using a transparent methodology, every single month, as standard.

What This Means in Practice

Carbon Handprint is not a campaign or a badge. It is the strategic lens through which every Environmental Green Group service is designed, measured, and reported.

It means that when we route your waste to CemFuel blending rather than landfill, we are not just saving you disposal cost - we are generating a measurable energy recovery contribution that belongs in your sustainability report. When we recondition your IBCs rather than disposing of them, we are not just reducing your procurement spend we are extending the circular life of those resources and adding to your material recovery rate. When we divert your hazardous waste from high-impact disposal to a licensed recovery route, we are not just keeping you compliant we are building a verified, auditable case for the positive environmental value your business creates.

Every service. Every collection. Every month. Measured, certified, and given back to you as proof.

Environmental Green Group exists to deliver safe, compliant, and efficient waste management solutions. Through the Carbon Handprint framework, we enable organisations to achieve measurable environmental improvement. We do not measure success solely by the volume of waste processed. We measure success by the positive environmental impact we create for our clients.

Your waste programme is already generating environmental value. A free audit tells you exactly how much, and what it would look like verified, certified, and ready for your next ESG disclosure.
